Application and Development of Multiple Teaching Styles to an Engineering ITS

Abstract

ITS-Engineering provides a framework for the development of a tutoring system application in the domain of engineering with less time and cost. The system adopts the Gagne's instructional design theory and the adaptive multimple teaching style paradigm to enable its instructor module to deliver instruction in various styles. These styles include instructor-oriented, guided-discovery, user-initiated, and exploratory styles. The instructor-oriented and the guided discovery style represents the teacher-control paradigm. In contrast, the user-initiated and the exploratory style represent the learner-control paradigm. The application of these teaching styles can be found in ITS-CPM (Intelligent Tutoring System for Construction and Project Management); an ITS application developed within the framework of ITS-Engineering.
